Traffic calming measures and the resurfacing of ramps on a residential road off Lord Edward street in Ballina are needed now before an accident occurs.

That's according to local councillor John O'Hara who says many people use the roads as a shortcut to McDermott street in the town.

He has received correspondence from the county's senior engineer that an application for funding has been made, and new traffic calming measures will be introduced in due course.

Councillor O'Hara has been giving more details to Midwest Radio's Alannah Nolan.
