The farm organisation, ICMSA is, asking the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, to request the Gardai to address the growing countrywide problem of gangs trespassing farmland on the pretext of hunting and the levels of intimidation and threat associated with this activity
At a recent meeting with the Minister, ICMSA President, Pat McCormack, explained that it has been deluged with complaints and reports regarding encounters between farmers and gangs trespassing on farms ostensibly for the purposes of hunting with dogs.
Mr. McCormack said that the scale and intensity of these encounters is now rising rapidly, and he had told Minister McEntee that it is only a matter of time before one of these confrontations ended in serious injury or worse.
He claims that these hunting groups will not leave lands even after it has been pointed out that they are trespassing and have no permission. He says the trespassers have posted footage on social media platforms in which they can be seen and heard openly threatening with violence the farmers asking them to leave the farm.
Pat has been telling Midwest News Editor more about the problem occurring nationwide…
