A Mayo active age retirement group will head to Dublin next week and collect a €1 million cheque at National Lottery headquarters.
The 47-member syndicate will collect just over €21,000 each from their unexpected windfall.
The Young at Heart Club, based in the Parke/Turlough community, have been contributing €1 each to their lottery pot every week for the past seven years.
Using a combination of numbers chosen by the bagman Michael Cosgrove, the group purchases the weekly Daily Millions ticket at Turlough Stores, which is run by Michael Barrett and his family.
This is the first big win for the senior citizens syndicate.
Michael Cosgrave, spokesman for the Young at Heart club told Midwest News that it is a really nice cash boost with Christmas coming up.
