There is great joy in Erris as the green light has been given for the provision of a Family Resource and Community Support Service for the area.

Following a strong and dedicated campaign by the local steering committee and working with all the local government agencies and voluntary groups, the news has been confirmed by the CEO of Tusla, Bernard Gloster.

The family and community support service is to be funded for the large rural community, in Northwest Mayo.

The professional and consistent local campaign, together with the distance from services, the high levels of disadvantage, and the increase in complex family and social needs led the agency to make a commitment to invest in a service to facilitate the community to respond to these needs.

Committee Chairperson for a Family Community Resource Service for Erris, Leanne Barrett, says cross party and interagency support were crucial to the approval of this much needed local resource.

Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley congratulated Leanne and the steering committee on their success..
