A Mayo man has been named MS Ireland Person of the Year 2022.
Partry native Seamus Burke received the award at the Annual General Meeting of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland earlier this month.
Seamus had been active on behalf of people with MS and the local branch of MS Ireland for many years.
Through the years, Seamus has regularly attended and participated in events organised by the Branch.
Since 2020, Seamus has produced many inspirational works of art and poetry which have been a regular Friday feature of the MS Ireland Facebook page since June that year. Art is something that Seamus was always interested in.
He began a series of paintings, each accompanied by a short poem, that expressed how he felt about the way MS affected him. This became especially important to him when COVID-19 sent him into lockdown.
Earlier this year Seamus was selected as one of 12 artists from all over Ireland to take part in the MS Ireland exhibition, The Art Of MS – Symptoms Under the Spotlight, supported by Novartis.
