Mayo County council have launched a new scheme in Castlebar to encourage parents dropping or picking up their children from school to park further away from school and walk to the gates.
The Park and Stride scheme would allow people to park free of charge in car parks away from the school so that they would get up to 20 minutes of their recommended physical exercise completed each day during the school run.
Speaking on the initiative, Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Municipal District Michael Kilcoyne says this is a fantastic opportunity for parents and students that want to choose a more active means of travelling to school.
