Nothing has been done to remedy the multiple water charging saga facing landowners across the region.
That’s according to South Mayo councillor Damien Ryan, who raised the issue at the recent meeting of Mayo County Council.
Councillors have called on Irish Water to amend the situation whereby customers are charged for multiple water metres on their lands rather than by a single volumetric charge.
Councillor Ryan says that this practice is completely unfair to people in rural Ireland, adding that it needs to be reformed and a solution found without delay.
The Fianna Fail whip for the county has met with the coalition parties in relation to this issue and claims nothing has been done by Government to solve the issue.
Councillor Damien Ryan told Midwest Radio’s John Morley that councillors have referred the matter to the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities.
