A local councillor raised camping and speeding concerns, as well as the need for traffic flow plans in the South Mayo area, at the recent Joint Policing Committee.
Fianna Fail Councillor Damien Ryan raised the three issues with members of the meeting and with Garda management.
Cllr Ryan wants to see a ‘free flow’ in Ballinrobe on Friday afternoons on a trial basis, whereby a local Garda would conduct traffic to allay congestion in the town.
He also raised the issue of overnight camping in Cong and one particular incident of damage to barriers in the area over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The third issue he raised was speed enforcement in The Neale and in particular the need for the Go Safe van to deter people speeding coming from the southern end of the village.
