The refusal by Irish Water to send a representative to attend the monthly meeting of the Claremorris / Swinford Municipal District Meeting this week angered local councillors.
Claremorris based Fine Gael councillor Tom Connolly says the water utility company has been asked to attend the monthly meeting after months of inaction on problems with sewers in the Claremorris town area.
He says the odour from some sewers forced residents in a local housing estate to abandon their homes for a number of hours one day during the Summer, and despite repeated calls from the councillor to Irish Water to address the issue, it has not been resolved.
Councillor Connolly told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that he will continue to insist that Irish water address the problem and that a representative of the company come before the Municipal District to deal with a number of outstanding issues…
