The minister for Education Norma Foley is refusing to come before the Oireachtas Committee on Education to discuss the present school bus fiasco that is continuing for many families across the county and the country at present, according to Mayo Sinn Fein deputy Rose Conway Walsh.

The deputy insists that it’s time for the Minister to face up and address the problem that has left school students and their parents in places like Straide and Lacken lining up to get on the school bus in the morning and being refused entry on to the bus because they have no tickets.

In July the government announced that school bus transport would be free this academic year to assist families struggling with inflation, however, the infrastructure has not been put in to provide the service, and as a result, families who had always paid to secure what are termed “concessionary” tickets to avail of school bus transport, have been left without access to the service.

Deputy Conway Walsh has been outlining to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley the attempts being made to get answers and action from Minister Foley on this issue…
