A movie which was filmed on Inis Mor and Achill islands, has received a 15 minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival.

The Banshees of Inisherein made its international premiere at the iconic film festival last night.

Set on an island off the west coast of Ireland in 1923, the story follows lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm, played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson respectively, who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship.

The Banshees of Inisherin, which also stars Barry Keoghan, opens in Irish cinemas on Friday 21 October.
