Sinn Féin continues to be the most popular party in the country.

The latest political opinion poll sees the party extend it's lead while support for the Greens has dipped - falling from 4 to just 2 percent.

The Sunday Independent / Ireland Thinks poll found Sinn Fein is up 1 point to 36 per cent.

Fine Gael dropped a point to 21 per cent, while Fianna Fáil is also down a point to 16.

The Green Party fell from 4 to 2 per cent.

People Before Profit  are up one point to 5, the Social Democrats are at 4,, Labour have 3 per cent, Aontú are at 3 per cent, while Independents/Other rose to 11pc, up two points.

57pc of those questioned said they expect the Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald to be Taoiseach after the next General election, 18pc said Fine Gael's Leo Varadkar, with just 6pc expecting Fianna Fáil's Micheál Martin to be Taoiseach.
