The 2022 Summer Stars Challenge ended with a presentation on Saturday when hundreds of parents and children attended a special ceremony at Westport Library where over 80 local children received their awards.
Presented by Cllr Christy Hyland, Mayor of the West Mayo District, every participant received a certificate of achievement, a medal and a library bag with some goodies included.
This was the largest Summer Stars presentation in the history of the branch with almost 200 children signing up for the challenge of reading and reviewing 9 books over the summer months.
Membership of the library is now free and fines have been abolished and borrowers can loan out up to 12 books, DVDs, Music CDs, for three weeks at a time or download e-Books, newspapers, magazines or audio books. The library also has a dedicated business section supported by Westport Chamber of Commerce, a dedicated study area, free wifi and computer use, and a printing and photocopying service.
Any Summer Stars who were unable to attend the ceremony can present themselves at Westport Library to receive their certificates, medals and bags in the coming weeks.
In the meantime hundreds of the Summer Stars book reviews are on display in the exhibition space of Westport Library.
