A local hotel owner says rising energy costs will cripple the hospitality sector

Darren Madden, owner of the Clew Bay Hotel in Westport says he has seen an 11 fold increase in his energy bills in the past 12 months.

This comes as there has been word on electricity 'blackouts' between 5pm and 7pm in the winter months to ration supplies.

Chairperson of the Mayo Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, Darren Madden told Midwest Radio's Alannah Nolan that businesses can only do so much to reduce their usage and many will have to close their doors this winter.
