The woman who died following a road collision in Kilkelly on Monday evening has been named as 91 years old Katie Doherty of Corgary, Ballybofey, county Donegal.
She died in Mayo University Hospital on Monday night following a road traffic accident earlier that evening on the N17 near Kilkelly.
She was a passenger in a car which was involved in a two -vehicle collision at Coolturk, Kilkelly, around teatime on Monday.
Mrs Doherty is survived by her immediate family as well as 35 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pat, and was well loved and respected in her local community and will be laid to rest in Ballintra Cemetery, county Donegal on Saturday next following Requiem Mass at 10 am in the local St. Brigid’s Church.
The Coroner for Mayo, Patrick O’Connor has been notified of the death and an inquest will be conducted in due course.
Gardai are continuing their investigations into the accident and are appealing for any witnesses or any motorist who has dashcam footage to contact them.
Following the impact, two other women and two juveniles were taken to Mayo University Hospital.
