Two men have been charged in connection with the death of a 48 year old who was attending a stag party in Athlone over the weekend.
The pair were brought before a special late night sitting of Mullingar District Court.
48 year old Paul 'Babs' Connolly from Edenderry in Co. Offaly has been at a stag party in Athlone when he was assaulted on Church Street in the town in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two men were were detained for questioning by Gardai in relation to the alleged unprovoked assault.
35 year old Sean Munnelly, an unemployed man of Irishtown, Athlone and 18 year old hardware store employee David Higgins, with an address at St Paul's Terrace, Athlone, appeared before Judge Alan Mitchell at a special late night sitting of Mullingar district court.
Both were charged with violent disorder and assault causing harm to Paul Connolly.
The pair were remanded in custody to appear via video link at the same court on Thursday.
