The number of people waiting for their first hospital outpatient consultation has increased by 3,700 in a single month.

At the end of July, the figure was almost 628,000 - compared to less than 624,000 a month earlier.

Over 907,000 people are now on some form of hospital waiting list.

GP Ciarán Ó Fearraigh says staff shortages contribute to the problem.
