The Society of the Irish Motor Industry is calling on the Government to retain supports aimed at getting more people driving electric cars.
It comes after a 44.5 percent increase in sales for EVs in July, despite a drop in the overall car market of 17.3 percent.
Figures released this week have shown the popularity of electric vehicles, hybrids and plug-in hybrids is continuing to grow, with a combined market share now of 40.9 percent.
In Mayo, new car registrations year to date are at 1,653 – an increase of 1.90% on the same period last year (1,576).
Director General of SIMI Brian Cooke says while Government supports have been generous so far, they need to continue to keep up this growing trend.
