Banks have been accused of using underhanded tactics to force customers to use online services.

The Financial Services Union claims banks are deliberately engaging in policies to move people away from cash and bricks-and-mortar banking.

The Irish Independent reports banks are accused of not answering phones, understaffing branches and failing to repair ATMs quickly as ways of forcing people online.

The FSU say the removal of ATMs from branches shows that banks have little interest in servicing their customers.
