A Galway East TD is calling on EIR to scrap its plans to make customers pay an additional cost for sending out bills in the post.

Sean Canney says the company will charge 5 euro 99 per-month, which amounts to a 71 euro 88 rise per year, for receiving a paper bill starting from January.

He claims older people on fixed income who rely on the telephone to communicate are being penalised for not doing their business online.
