Gardaí remain at the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian on the West Road in Westport.

The crash occurred along the West Road between Westport Fire Station and the Ardmore Road Junction at around 5:40pm yesterday evening.

It’s understood that a teenage male pedestrian was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital Galway for treatment for his injuries.

He was walking close to the MUGA Skate Park at Carrownalurgan on the Murrisk road out of the town.

The road remains closed to traffic this morning and Midwest News understands it will remain closed until lunchtime.

Local diversions are in place around the quay in Westport.

An Garda Síochána has no further information available at this time.
