A retail group says it hopes face masks remain a choice as a new poll shows most people are in favour of a mask mandate in public settings.

79 per cent would like to see coverings made compulsory again, according to a Red C poll for The Journal.

While 40 per cent are in favour of having to wear a mask in shops.
