From this September, the parish of Straide will no longer have a resident parish priest, as Bishop Paul Dempsey has announced the Diocesan Clergy Appointments 2022 in the Diocese of Achonry.
Fr. Martin Convey PP in Straide is to become the Parish Priest of Collooney. Administration of Straide will be overseen by Fr Stepehen O’Mahony, Parish Priest of Bohola.
The announcement was made to parishioners in Straide at Mass last Sunday, by Bishop Dempsey during his sermon, and the congregation were said to be stunned and taken aback by the news.
A public meeting has been called in Straide for next Monday night to discuss the situation and the local organisers say it’s open to the parish to attend and the meeting will be held in Straide Hall at 9pm.
