The long awaited work on the sea wall at Bunduala in Belmullet is now underway.
Fianna Gael councillor Gerry Coyle has welcomed the development saying it has come 'not before time'.
The wall will run along the R313 and will replace the wall that was built over a hundred years ago.
The construction of the wall has had many setbacks and delays over the years, but Councillor Coyle says the wall should be completed by October, and will be welcomed locally as the winter months return.
