A Mayo Councillor has proposed the introduction of a byelaw to mandate dog poo-bags in public places.

Fine Gael councillor Jarlath Munnelly raised the issue at Monday's meeting of Mayo County Council, saying Mayo is in the throes of a dog fouling epidemic.

If introduced the byelaw would compel members of the public to carry a plastic bag to clean up after their dogs.
