Mayo County Council needs to put a strategy in place immediately to address the falling number of blue flag beaches in the county, according to Killala based Councillor Jarlath Munnelly.

The Fine Gael councillor raised the issue at this week's monthly meeting of Mayo County Council, saying there has been a lack of priority given to beaches in the county since he first raised the issue back in 2017.

Mayo has lost 3 blue flag beaches in the past 5 years and has fallen down in national rankings.

Councillor Munnelly told Midwest Radio's Alannah Nolan that failing to prioritise our beaches could impact on tourism in the county...
