Cabinet will sign off on the final Pyrite and Mica redress plan this morning.
The defective blocks situation has affected householders in numerous counties along the west coast including Mayo, Sligo and Donegal.
It is set to be extended to also include counties Clare and Limerick.
Adding the two counties is likely to add around 500 million euro to the cost, bringing it to an estimated 2.7 billion.
It's understood the move could bring a further 2,000 homes into the reach of the defective blocks scheme.
