A busy stretch of the N60 road out of Claremorris, on the Castlebar side, is the cause of major safety concerns due to the speed of traffic travelling along the route.

The matter is to be raised today by local councillor Tom Connolly at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council. The councillor is insisting that speed control measures need to be  put in place immediately, before a fatality occurs.

Numerous collisions have occurred along this road in recent months, including a multi-vehicle collision yesterday, in which a number of people were injured, none of the injuries have been described as life threatening. However, councillor Connolly says if something is not done to control the speed of traffic along this 100km stretch of road than a fatality is inevitable.
