The need for a garda presence in towns like Crossmolina to prevent the increasing number of public order incidents / fighting on the streets among young people was highlighted by local Fianna Fail councillor Michael Loftus at the county Joint Policing Committee Meeting held in Castlebar yesterday (Friday).
The councillor said there was a recent incident of extensive fighting on a street in Crossmolina among youngsters and through social media the incident was exposed nationally and internationally.
He called for more gardai on the beat, not just in our larger towns and cities but also in rural areas, as he believes that the immediate presence of a garda makes a difference, and prevents such street fighting from occurring.
Councillor Loftus has been speaking to Midwest News about his concerns…
