New laws are on the way to protect landowners from personal injury claims by members of the public.

According to the Irish Independent, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue told a public meeting in Co. Leitrim that laws currently being drafted would 'rebalance' the responsibilities of both parties.

It would provide a 'voluntary assumption of risk' if a person willingly places themselves in a position that may cause them harm, meaning landowners would be better protected against potential law suits from walkers and hikers who injure themselves on private land.
