Ahead of a busy bank holiday weekend, Gardai have been enforcing National Slow Down Day today.
One motorist was clocked doing 140km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the N4 in Lucan while in Castlebar one car was reported to have been going 80km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Pontoon Road.
At the launch in NUI Galway today, Gardai have urged drivers to slow down and always choose a speed that is appropriate to the driving conditions. Figures released at the launch showed that 78% of drivers were seen to have driven in excess of the posted speed limit of 50km/h.
Additionally, motorists have been urged to take extra care this bank holiday weekend.
