Rail commuters in Mayo can look forward to an increase in services to Dublin and a 60% improvement in journey times over the coming years.
That’s according to Westport-based councillor Christy Hyland, following a representation from Irish Rail to the recent West Mayo Municipal District meeting.
They also revealed to councillors that there will be increasing 2 hourly services over the next 5 years, along with additional carriages on the Westport line.
Councillor Hyland also raised the issue of anti-social behaviour on trains, saying that Friday evening services are the worst affected.
He told Midwest News that this development of the rail system in the West of Ireland is vital.
