The €20 LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature project was officially launched this morning in Ballycroy Community Centre by two Green Ministers Malcolm Noonan and Pippa Hackett .
LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature aims to deliver environmental and social benefits through the conservation and restoration of blanket bog habitat in northwest Ireland.
The project covers more than 250,000 hectares along the Western seaboard from Galway to Donegal.
More than 150 farmers in Co. Mayo took part in the pilot initiative last year and have received total payments in excess of €500,000.
The Green Ministers will than officially launch National Biodiversity Week at Enniscoe House, Crossmolia at 4.30pm this afternoon.
