On the 5th of May 1998, 83 years old Eddie Fitzmaurice of Bellaghy Charlestown was found dead in the bedroom of his home.

The elderly draper lived alone and was assaulted and died in a burglary at his home.

A murder investigation got underway by gardai and twenty four years later no one has been charged with Mr Fitzmaurice’s death.

Gardai are today renewing their appeal to the public for any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

Garda Superintendent Joe McKenna is asking that anyone with any information on what occurred, however, insignificant they consider that information to be, to please come forward with it to the gardai.
