A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious assault in Sligo town.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened in the Rockwood Parade area on Tuesday evening.
The man in his late 30s suffered a head injury in the attack on Tuesday evening in the Rockwood Parade area of Sligo town.
Gardai say emergency services attended the scene shortly after 6pm - the man was taken to Sligo University Hospital, but has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as critical.
The scene was preserved and a forensic examination has been carried out.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward, and for anyone who was in the vacinity of Rockwood Parade, between 5 o'ckock and a quarter past 6 on Tuesday evening and may have video or dashcam footage, to make it available to them.
