To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday week, April 28th, you can tune into the Tommy  Marren Show here on Midwest Radio at 9.15am.

Mayo County Council Arts Service’s will present poets  Edel Burke and Nithy Kasawho will read some of their poetry on the programme.

The theme of Poetry Day Ireland 2022 is Written in the Stars.

Edel lives in Castlebar and is the recipient of the Words Ireland/Mayo County Council National Mentorship programme, 2021; winner of Dromineer Poetry Competition 2017, and highly commended in the iYeats Poetry Competition 2017.

She has been published in a number of journals and is working towards a first collection of poetry.

Nithy is an Ireland-based poet of Congolese origin. Her poems have been published in a range of publications. She received the Poetry Ireland commissions 2020, with the support of an Arts Council of Ireland Commission Award, and was short listed for The Eavan Boland Emerging Poet Award 2021. Her debut collection of poetry is due to be published by Doire Press in May 2022.

Poetry Day Ireland is an initiative of Poetry Ireland and is strategically funded by Mayo County Council and the Arts Council.
