People with Garda vetting should be used to ease the staffing burden on the early childcare sector at present.
That's according to Laura Mulready, the manager of Tigh na Leanai creche and playschool in Kiltimagh.
Her call comes as the Association of Childhood Professionals highlight that Covid-19, along with poor pay and conditions have exacerbated staffing issues in the sector.
New figures show 4 percent of creches were forced to close last week, with half of staff absences caused by Covid.
The survey, taken by the Department of Children and Equality, also found of the creches that stayed open last week, 57% had at least one staff absent.
