The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has called for direct intervention from the HSE and the Minister for Health as trolley numbers spiral out of control nationally.

It comes as 549 patients are on hospital trolleys today, with 111 patients on trolleys waiting for admission to University Hospital Limerick, the second day in a row where a national record has been broken for trolley numbers at the Limerick hospital.

There are long delays for patients presenting at Emergency Depts at hospitals across the west today.

There are 46 patients on trolleys waiting for admission to University Hospital Galway today, 27 at Sligo University Hospital, 18 at Mayo University Hospital and 13 at Portiuncula University Hospital.
