Motorists are urged to take extreme caution on roads across the region this morning with frost and fog causing hazardous driving conditions.

It was a frosty start with scattered patches of mist and fog throughout Connacht.

Met Eireann says that any lingering frost, mist and fog will clear through the morning.

There are reports of dense fog in the Castlebar and Westport areas.

Gardaí are also urging motorists to take care on the roads this morning, particularly on minor routes that have not been gritted, especially as the frost thaws.

The advice is to leave in plenty of time for your destination and to slow down.

There are no reports of any road traffic collisions so far this morning.
