A Castlebar councillor is appealing to the HSE not to relocate the Mayo PCR Covid Testing Centre - which is now at MacHale Park - out to the Breaffy Resort Vaccination Centre.

Before Christmas, the HSE stated that the test centre would be re-locating in the new year to the Breaffy Vaccination Centre, located on the N60 Castlebar to Roscommon road.

However, Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere, says that in light of the safety concerns around traffic through Breaffy village at present, with a number of road fatalities over recent years, it would not be the best option at this time.

Cllr Deere says considering the volume of traffic that builds up along MacHale road as people queue for PCR testing, imposing that traffic to the Breaffy area, would cause further road safety concerns.

He agrees that the Test Centre needs to re-locate, but is asking the HSE to consider other locations....
