The State Exams Commission says it won't be possible to rerun last year's hybrid Leaving Cert model, giving students a choice between accredited grades and sitting written exams in the Summer.

The Irish Times reports the cancellation of the Junior Cert in 2020 makes it "impossible" to give students a choice, as the information was seen as crucial in helping teachers grade their students.

On that basis, the State Exams Commission told education partners earlier this week that it will not be possible to run calculated or accredited grades for this year's Leaving Cert students, and they're now understood to be examining other contingency options.

The SEC said adjustments have already been made to the 2022 State exams - including more choice on exam papers, while there will also be two sets of Leaving Cert exams held during the Summer to cater for those sick with Covid-19 or in isolation.SEC rules
