University Hospital Galway has the joint second highest number of patients on trolleys awaiting beds nationally.

There are 44 patients awaiting admission for a bed at the Galway facility and at Letterkenny University Hospital today.

University Hospital Limerick is the only hospital more overcrowded, with 54 patients awaiting admission.

411 admitted patients are waiting for beds across the hospital system today, according to the latest INMO Trolley Watch figures.

Across the region there are 33 patients on trolleys in Sligo University Hospital, 16 at the Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe and 14 at Mayo University Hospital.
