Gardai in Castlebar are advising of congested traffic in the town this afternoon as long queues are forming, to enter the Covid Test Centre at McHale Park.

Traffic is almost at a standstill from McHale road back to the Cathal Duffy Roundabout, and down as far as the Mall, and backed up also to the Mulroy Roundabout on the N5.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area at present, if at all possible and use alternative routes to access the Westport and Ballinrobe roads.

PCR testing for Covid 19 is by appointment only, however, Midwest News understands some health care workers are being referred for testing from Mayo University Hospital to the centre as well today.

Anyone in the area at present can expect long traffic delays.
