Mayo University Hospital has updated its guidelines for people visiting the hospital.
Visitors will be asked to produce their EU Digital Covid Cert or vaccination record at the entrance, and will also be asked for photo ID to prove the Covid cert is theirs.
Anyone coming into the Castlebar hospital must complete a Covid-19 screening checklist, and follow public health guidance including using a face mask and hand sanitiser.
Also, access to visitors is limited to one person per patient per day, by appointment.
Patients identify who they would like to visit, and staff them phone the nominated person to offer a time slot.
Nominated visitors should not visit the hospital if they have any symptoms of the virus, or are awaiting the results of a Covid test.
Mayo University Hospital manager Catherine Donohoe says she knows how important it is for patients to have a visitor every day, and they're trying to balance this with the need to reduce the footfall in the hospital, due to the current high number of Covid cases in the community.
Children may not visit the hospital unless agreed in advance on compassionate grounds with the ward manager.
