The Pyrite redress scheme, as it is reportedly set out, is not satisfactory.
That’s according to Martina Hegarty, spokesperson for the North Mayo Pyrite Group.
The Crossmolina woman says pyrite affected homeowners across Mayo were disappointed to first learn of the plans, due to go to Cabinet tomorrow, in yesterday’s Sunday Independent.
She claims that the memo reportedly going to Cabinet will effectively stop all homeowners from getting 100% redress because of the compensation restrictions on square footage.
Homeowners can avail of 138 euro per square foot, which she claims will leave many people 30 to 50,000 euro short of the cost to rebuild their property.
Martina Hergarty told Midwest News that this provision effectively means smaller homes will be even more negatively impacted than larger ones.
