A north Mayo teenager has been named as the Netwatch Connacht Young Carer of the Year at an awards ceremony held in The Westin Hotel in Dublin yesterday.
13-year-old Zoe Gilmartin from Bonniconlon received the prestigious recognition for going above and beyond in caring for her little brother Ryan who has Down syndrome.
Karen Smith from Co. Louth was named Netwatch Family Carer of the Year at the ceremony hosted by broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan.
Now in their 15th year, the Netwatch Family Carer of the Year awards seek to recognise and shine a light on the remarkable contribution of Ireland’s forgotten frontline who care for loved ones with additional needs.
Catherine Cox, Head of Communications and Policy, Family Carers Ireland said that caring is a demanding and emotional job, and all their finalists are shining examples of people who go the extra mile.
