The death has taken place of former Mayo county councillor Jimmy Glacken, of Carracrum, Bonniconlon.
He was co-opted on to Mayo County Council and served as a Fianna Fail councillor from 1987 to 1991.
He was known as a voice for his community, the farming community and rural Ireland.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, and children.
This lunchtime, Mayo Fianna Fail deputy Dara Calleary paid this tribute to the late Jimmy Glacken.
His remains will be reposing at Gallagher’s Funeral Home, Bonniconlon tomorrow (Thurs) evening from 6-8 p.m.
Removal takes place from his residence Friday morning to the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Bonniconlon for 12 noon Mass, and he will be laid to rest afterwards in Bonniconlon Cemetery.
