A nightclub owner in Ballina believes the Government had no choice but to bring in the new measures.

A midnight curfew for restaurants, bars and nightclubs comes into force later today.

The measure has been brought in to try curb the recent spike in Covid-19 cases.

Michael Carr of Bar Square in Ballina says the virus is rampant at present and measures needed to be brought in.

However, he feels the rules that Government introduced for late bars and nightclubs was unworkable.

He has been telling Midwest News that the next two weeks are vital in terms of curbing the spread of the virus to ensure the hospitality sector remains opened for Christmas.
