Mayo Deputy Alan Dillon is calling for an urgent review of the Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System to determine its effectiveness within National Ambulance Service.
The Fine Gael TD was supplied with new information showing that average waiting times for Category 1 calls within the West Region have increased by around 15% since 2018.
Deputy Dillon says the Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System effectively re-routes ambulances on existing call-outs to more urgent cases.
He argues that this is causing greater inefficiencies in the service, which is the opposite of its intended purpose of increasing efficiency and effectiveness of the NAS.
Deputy Alan Dillon told Midwest News that the National Ambulance Service, the HSE and the Health Minister need to take on a number of suggestions to improve the service.
