There may be some welcome news before the end of the year, for people across the region looking for a home, and who do not qualify for social / council housing.
That’s according to Independent Westport councillor Christy Hyland.
He says that he has been informed that the income bands to qualify for social housing are being reviewed and may be changed in December.
At present a couple with two children must earn less than 27,500 euro a year to be eligible to apply for a council house.
Councillor Hyland has been campaigning for some time to have the income bands raised, in light of the housing crisis across county Mayo at present.
